A Gainesville early literacy program, "Read, Learn, Succeed: A School Community Initiative for Early Learning Foundations," will be featured at a national conference this week.
The National Dropout Prevention Conference, sponsored by the National Dropout Prevention Network, began Sunday in Palm Springs, California.
The Scholastic Learning Supports Services division will present two sessions at the Conference.
Merrianne Dyer of Scholastic, retired Gainesville City School System superintendent, will present one of them. Dyer's presentation will feature a report on “Read, Learn, Succeed," describing the community program coordinated by the United Way of Hall County.
In addition to the Scholastic presentations, a team from Gainesville City Schools - including Sarah Bell, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction; Patti Henderson; Leigh Sears;and Shea Ray - will present a session, “A Systemic Approach: Structuring School Improvement to Meet the Needs of Diverse Learners.” The school system was the pilot site for the implementation of the Learning Supports System based on the foundational work of Drs. Howard Adelman and Linda Taylor of UCLA. The study was conducted from 2009-2014 in a partnership with Scholastic and AASA: The American Association of School Administrators.
