BLUE RIDGE — Lumpkin County got its first win of the 2017 season in impressive style Friday night.
The Indians held off Fannin County 10-0 at Rebel Stadium in Region 7-AAA action for their shutout win since August 2011 when they blanked Riverside Military Academy 50-0.
Senior Wesley Wells gave Lumpkin County (1-7, 1-3 Region 7-AAA) the only points it needed with a field goal with just 14.6 seconds left in the first half.
Julian Hazen extended the lead to 10-0 late in the third quarter and the defense made it stand up.
The Indians stayed alive for a playoff berth with the win and will play host to arch-rival Dawson County (6-2, 4-0) next week.
Fannin County (2-6, 0-4) dropped its fourth straight game.
