ATLANTA — Third-ranked Jefferson kept its rushing attack going on Friday but could do little to slow St. Pius ground game either, as the Dragons fell 43-29 in Atlanta.
The Golden Lions (3-5, 3-0 Region 8-AAAA) rushed for 284 yards in the first half alone and finished the night with 503 total yards, as they took the early lead. The Dragons (6-2, 2-1) never found a way to derail Pius' triple option as the home team scored touchdowns on six of its seven possessions, taking a knee on its final possession to end the contest.
Colby Wood rushed for 169 yards on 17 carries for Jefferson, while Bryce Moore connected on 9 of 18 passes for 127 yards but was picked off twice, as St. Pius took sole possession of first place in Region 8-AAAA.
The Dragons travel to Stephens County next week.
