TIGER — Bailey Fisher threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores to lead Rabun County to a 35-7 victory over Elbert County Friday night in a key Region 8-AA battle.
The Class AA fifth-ranked Wildcats (8-0, 4-0 Region 8-AA) never trailed and scored the final 21 points after the Blue Devils (6-2, 3-1) scored their only toochdown in the first quarter to cut into a 14-0 Rabun County lead.
Fisher got things rolling quickly tossing a 15-yard touchdown pass to Braxton Hicks less than two minutes into the game for a 7-0 lead. After forcing a Elbert County punt, Fisher and the offense went back to work.
The Wildcats needed just three plays and 56 seconds to extend the lead when Brison Beck ran in from 8-yards out. His score was set up by a 45-yard pass from Fisher to Cole Keener the play before.
A 46-yard kickoff return set up Elbert County at the Wildcats 47 and the Blue Devils chewed up nearly four minutes on the clock as Shun Allen capped a long 11-play drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 14-7 with 3:23 left in the first quarter. That was as close as Elbert County would get.
Early in the second quarter Fisher and Hicks connected for a 69-yard touchdown strike and then late in the period Fisher capped a 7-play, 94-yard drive with a 2-yard scoring run for a 28-7 halftime lead.
The score stayed that way until Fisher scored on a 17-yard run with 1:54 left in the game to seal the victory.
Fisher went 8-for-16 for 212 yards passing and added 76 yards rushing to pace Rabun County. Beck finished with 139 yards rushing on 18 attempts.
The Rabn County secondary was huge holding Blue Devils quarterback Kobe Goudelock to just 9-of-32 passing for 97 yards.
Rabun County can wrap up its fourth straight region title with a win next week over Oglethorpe County.
