Arrest made in Dawson County hit-and-run

Authorities have arrested a Forsyth County woman in connection with an apparent hit-and-run incident that killed a Dawson County man earlier this month.

According to a press statement released by the Georgia State Patrol Post in Cumming, investigators found a vehicle on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at a residence in Forsyth County that fit the description of the vehicle that was involved in the deadly crash on Dawson Forest Road on Oct. 9. 

Bobby Eugene Wells, 80, of Dawsonville died after he was hit by a vehicle as he tried to cross the road from a church.

The Georgia State Patrol identified the suspect in the case as Sherri Lynn Jennings, 44, of Cumming. Jennings faces a number of charges: Homicide by Vehicle First Degree (F), Hit and Run (F), Failure to Report an Accident (M) and Failure to Maintain Lane (M), according to the press statement.

Jennings remained in the Dawson County Jail at last report. Her bond has been set at $30,200. 

The incident remains under investigation.

In addition to the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team, investigators from the Dawson County District Attorney’s Office, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office,  Dawson County Communications and Lanier Technical College Police also participated in the investigation.
