CUMMING — Ben Bales and North Forsyth continue to make history in 2017.
Bales threw for a school-record 407 yards and four touchdowns to lead North Forsyth to an impressive 45-21 victory over Lambert Friday night in Region 5-AAAAAAA action.
It also was the first-ever win for the Raiders (5-2, 2-0 Region 5-AAAAAAA) over the Longhorns (2-5, 0-2 Region 5-AAAAAAA) in six tries.
It was a game of big plas and then even bigger plays.
Lambert opened the game with a 65-yard kickoff return and the Longhorns scored on the next play, a 35-yard touchdown pass for a 7-0 lead just 17 seconds into the game. But North Forsyth was not daunted.
Bryson Trigg took the handoff on the Raiders' first play of the game on the ensuing drive and raced through and past the Longhorns defense for an 80-yard touchdown run to tie the game.
After Lambert reclaimed the lead 14-7 late in the first quarter, North Forsyth exploded over the next quarter-and-a-half. In the second quarter Bales and Charlie Aiken connected on a 48-yard touchdown pass, Trigg added a 66-yard scoring run, and Bales found Cedric Touchstone for a 2-yard strike that was set up by a 27-yard pass from Bales to Aiken for a 28-14 halftime lead.
In the third quarter Bales and Touchstone connected for two more touchdown passes of 66 and 23 yards and Arthur Boyzo booted a 27-yard field goal .
Touchstone hauled in 10 catches for 161 yards and the three touchdowns to lead the Raiders passing attack. Aiken had four catches for 97 yards and a score, and Triston Howard had six catches for 105 yards for North Forsyth. Trigg was a workhorse with 30 carries for 232 yards and two touchdowns.
The 407 yards for Bales broke his own record of 397 he set earlier this season.
The Raiders will get a huge test next week playing host to No. 4 South Forsyth in a battle of region unbeatens.
