Officials say missing Alpharetta teen was victim of fatal Stephens County wreck

TOCCOA – Monday night’s fatal wreck involving a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer truck in Stephens County involved a missing Alpharetta teen.

Ethan Lee Matthews, 17, was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer truck on Ga. 17 just south of Ga. 328 (Gumlog Road) near Martin just before 8 p.m., according to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

Matthews, who was not carrying identification at the time of the incident, had last been seen driving his father’s grey 2011 Range Rover near the Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta just before 6 a.m. Monday and was the subject of a missing person lookout from Alpharetta Department of Public Safety.

The 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer truck, driven by a 57-year-old North Carolina man, was traveling south on Ga. 17 in the right travel lane, just south of the Ga. 328 intersection, according to GSP.

The truck driver, Keith Inman, was not injured and neither impairment nor distraction is suspected, according to GSP.
