An Elberton woman was killed in a Friday night accident when she lost control of her vehicle on an Athens roadway.
Athens police said in a Monday morning press release that Sharde Tarnisha Smith was driving west on Hull Road/GA 72 when her vehicle crossed over the median, across the eastbound lanes of the roadway and then up an embankment and into a tree.
Investigators said Smith was not wearing a seat belt. No one else was in the car with Smith. They are unsure why Smith lost control of the car.
The press statement said no autopsy would be performed on the body, but authorities did take a blood sample for analysis.
