Dina Hewett, director of the Mary Inez Grindle School of Nursing at Brenau University, was recently appointed to the Nursing Education Committee for the Georgia Board of Nursing.

Hewett is one of 13 members of the Nursing Education Committee. The state board uses advisory committees to assist with its regulatory work. Committee members review issues at the board’s request and make suggestions regarding nursing regulation.

“Primarily, the education committee works closely with the nursing education consultant and the executive director to provide recommendations to the board regarding nursing education,” Hewett said.

Hewett, who has worked at Brenau for more than two years, said she applied in December, after the board’s executive director Jim Cleghorn notified qualified people of vacancies. Committee members have to be Georgia residents, licensed by the board and employed in a nursing education program in the state.

“Since I came on board here at Brenau, I’ve done what I could to get involved with the Board of Nursing,” Hewett said. “I’m honored and excited to be named a member of this committee, to discuss pertinent issues related to nursing education in the state of Georgia and how we interact with the Georgia Board of Nursing.”
