CLEVELAND — White County football has landed its next football coach.
Tim Cokely, who has been part of six state championships in the state of Florida during his 22 years of coaching -- which also includes stints at Greater Atlanta Christian and Colquitt County in Georgia -- was introduced by Warriors athletic director Alan Griffin on Wednesday.
Cokely owns a career record of 185-73 and comes to the Warriors from Leon High School in Tallahassee, Fla., where he led Leon to three state playoff appearances in four seasons. Cokely has also been head coach a Marianna High School (2012), and North Florida Christian (2008-10 and 1995-2005).
“Tim Cokely will bring an immediate winning attitude to WCHS; we are excited to have a coach of such caliber with a strong moral character,” said White County principal John Osborne via press release.
Cokely takes over from Bill Ballard, who resigned in November after six seasons in charge in Cleveland.
The Warriors are coming off a 1-9 record in 2016 but reached the state playoffs in three straight campaigns under Ballard (2012-14) -- a first for the Warriors. Ballard's teams went a combined 29-35.
“The entire athletic department will benefit from coach Cokely," said Griffin via press release. "He brings years of experience and knowledge that will impact every student on campus."
Cokely was 31-23 combined during two seasons leading GAC (2010-11) and three at Colquitt County (2005-07).
According to WCTV.com more than 40 of Cokely's players at Leon High signed to play collegiate football.
