Funeral set today for retired White County state educator Horace Fitzpatrick

CLEVELAND — Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) for a former White County educator and community leader. 

Horace James Fitzpatrick spent 18 years in the classroom and served as superintendent of White County Schools for 12 years, beginning in 1968. He also worked at the education service agency, Pioneer RESA, for five years and spent 10 years with the Georgia State Department of Education before retiring. 

He was involved in his community and a member of Mossy Creek United Methodist Church.

Fitzpatrick was honored by the state and his community in 2015, when he was  presented with a proclamation of appreciation from the White County Board of Commissioners, a certificate of appreciation by Rep. Terry Rogers, and certificate and an American flag from Congressman Doug Collins. 

Fitzpatrick died Sunday at the age of 87. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Jan. 25) at Mossy Creek United Methodist Church.
