CLEVELAND — The Truett McConnell men's basketball team trailed for just 16 seconds all night but found themselves in a shootout Saturday afternoon against Tennessee Wesleyan in the Bear Cave.

The Bears came out victorious with an 84-79 win over TWU, improving to 9-10 overall and 5-6 in league play.

Truett McConnell's first half was highlighted by a SportsCenter Top 10 nominee dunk by freshman Kai Lambert with 12:39 to play until halftime. The Bears led by as many as 12 before taking an eight-point lead to the break.

The Bulldogs and Bears then went basket-for-basket with each other as both teams used defense to trigger offense. TWU used turnovers to find baskets, while TMU pulled down rebounds and got out in transition. The Bulldogs pulled to within one with 4:18 to play, but the Bears pulled away en route to the five-point win.

David Campbell Jr., led the way with 26 points, including 12-of-16 free throws. Jacob Booke, Mario Westbrooks and Lambert contributed 14, 12 and 11, respectively.

The Bears will play their final out-of-conference game on Tuesday, January 17, when they welcome Fisk University to the Bear Cave for a 7:30 p.m. meeting.
