Students from a number of northeast Georgia organizations are attending the three-day National Junior Theater Festival which got underway Friday in Atlanta.

Students from First Redeemer Conservatory of Music & Fine Art's Acting Up/Building Character and Forsyth Academy of Performing Arts in Cumming,  Holly Performance Academy and Lumpkin County Middle School in Dahlonega, North Gwinnett Middle School in Sugar Hill, Play On Players and its Junior group, The Petite Poppers, in Gainesville, Red Phoenix Theatre Company in Buford, and RMS Drama in Suwanee were all accepted for the event.

Created by New York’s iTheatrics and produced by the Junior Theater group, the iTheatrics Junior Theater Festival is the world’s largest festival for student-driven musical theater programs. Musical theater professionals from Broadway and beyond also attend.

The festival is expected to attract 6,000+ students and educators from 115 educational musical theater groups representing 28 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, New Zealand, South Korea and Australia.

Each group attending the iTheatrics Junior Theater Festival performs a 15-minute selection of a musical for a panel of theater professionals.
