Authorities still aren't sure why it happened, but they have now released the names of those involved in a fatal wrong-way crash on I-85 near Jefferson.

According to a report in the Athens Banner Herald, the Georgia State Patrol said 23-year-old Jonathan Holloway of Newport News, Virginia was the wrong way driver in the incident. He was killed when he got on the interstate traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.

Jackson County authorities said a deputy had seen Holloway driving erratically on the highway just after 3:30 a.m. Friday and had tried to stop him, but he sped away from them, leaving I-85 at the Jefferson exit and eventually returning in the wrong direction. Deputies say they never chased Holloway.

The driver hit by Holloway, 31-year-old Kyle Hoose of Alto, was injured and hospitalized at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
