ATHENS — Commerce put up more yards than Athens Christian on Friday night -- but the Tigers could not stop A.J. Rowe near the goal line.
The Eagles fullback scored three short touchdown runs to seal a 21-14 defeat of Commerce on Friday in Athens.
Athens Christian took a 14-0 first half lead, but the Tigers (3-1, 2-1 Region 8-A) stormed back to knot the score thanks to quarterback Lane Sorrow. Sorrow scored on a two-yard run to make it 14-7 and then tied it up on a 64-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Mason.
But the Eagles (2-2, 1-2) would not let Commerce's offense maintain the momentum, hogging possession and the clock in the fourth quarter, as the Tigers ran just three offensive plays in the period.
Commerce finished with 303 total yards -- 181 rushing, 122 passing -- while Athens Christian managed 217. Sorrow led the Tigers with 86 yards on nine carries.
Commerce will battle Prince Avenue Christian next week.
