SUWANEE — Buford bagged a pair of wins Wednesday in the Rams Classic Tournament at Collins Hill High School.
The Class AAAAA No. 1 Lady Wolves knocked off Etowah 3-2in dramatic fashion and then whipped host Collins Hills 10-3 in the second.
Against Etowah, Hanna Jo Hyatt capped a two-run bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single scoring senior Sam Thomas, who had tripled scoring Mariah Wicker earlier in the inning to tie the game.
Junior Logan Caymol (8-0) got the win pitching a four-hitter allowing one run and striking out five for Buford.
Hyatt, a junior, finished with two hits. Gabby Benson and sophomore Mariah Vicker also had hits for the Lady Wolves.
In the win over Collins Hill, Buford (17-1) pounded out 15 hits and took control with a 6-run third inning. Sophomore Katie Perkins had three hits and two RBI to lead the attack. Benson and Thomas each had two hits and combined for three RBI and four runs scored and junior Arielle Oda had two hits for the Lady Wolves.
After the Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the third and once in the sixth to trim the lead to 6-3, Buford blew it open with four runs in the seventh.
Junior Ansley Byers (6-1) got the win yielding eight hits while fanning four. All three runs were unearned.
Buford will jump into Region 8-AAAAA action on Thursday playing to Cedar Shoals on Senior Night.
