A search is underway on Lake Lanier for a kayaker who went missing a week ago.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources confirmed Tuesday morning that Lam Dang Ma was reported missing by friends on September 7.  The missing man's vehicle was found last Wednesday at Two Mile Creek Park and his kayak was found Sunday at the other end of the Two Mile Island chain, according to DNR. Since then, rangers have been focusing on that area for the search. DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon said the search area is large, making it difficult to pinpoint where Ma might be.

The 19-year-old apparently is a student at the University of Georgia, according to social media posts by friends. In those posts, they said they have organized search parties to assist in the location of their friend.
