Two people were killed in a fiery weekend crash on Georgia Highway 316 in Barrow County.

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office said in a Monday morning press release the fatal accident happened Saturday morning around 2:35 between Highway 81 and Carl-Bethlehem Road.

The victims have been identified as 39-year-old Aileen Fisk of Monroe and 21-year-old Anthony Hawkins of Bethlehem.

Authorities said it appears Fisk was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of the highway when she hit Hawkins' vehicle head-on. When deputies arrived on the scene, both vehicles were engulfed in flames and both drivers were still inside their vehicles. Fisk and Hawkins died at the scene.

Investigators closed the highway for nearly two and a half hours as they cleared the accident scene.

The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.
