Officials with the Army Corps of Engineers confirmed Friday that the agency has issued the maximum number of dock permits allowed on Lake Lanier, and no more will be issued at this time.
"Our maximum number of dock permits that can be issued for Lake Lanier is 10,615," said Nick Baggett, natural resource manager for Lake Lanier, in a phone interview.
That maximum number was determined in a 2003 environmental impact study, said Baggett, and there are no immediate plans to expand it currently.
This does not mean, however, that the Army Corps of Engineers will never issue another permit.
"If permits did become available in the future, we would be contacting those individuals who are currently on our application waiting list," said Baggett.
That would be done on a first come, first served basis, "or simply in the order that the application was received by our office," said Baggett.
