DAHLONEGA — The University of North Georgia men's golf team shattered the school record for a team 54-hole event with a 288-288-292-868 (+4) at the UNG Tri-Match held at Achasta Golf Club. UNG's Logan Archer was crowned individual medalist with following a final round 70, also setting a new individual 54-hole scoring record (67-67-70-204).
The 54-hole team score bettered the previous record by 15 strokes, set in the Spring of 2015 at the Lander Bearcat Invitational.
Archer's score of 12-under distanced the previous school record of -3 held by two different players. The sophomore from Trussville, Ala. laid claim to the individual school record with back-to-back scores of 67 on the tournament's opening day.
Young Harris ran away with the team honors with a 54-hole score of 850 (288-282-280), claiming the team title for the second consecutive year.
UNG's Tanner Merck contributed in the final round with a one-under 71, while Matt Elliott and Grant Lasseter each carded 78 to round out the Nighthawks' team score.
West Georgia finished third with a 54-hole score of 885.
The Nighthawks return to the course on Sept. 12-13 at the Full Moon BBQ Invitational hosted by Montevallo at Timberline Golf Club in Calera, Ala.
