HOMER — Banks County football flat out needed a win on Friday night.
The Leopards opened the season 0-2 and did not want to enter this week's bye with an 0-3 mark.
Cue Leopards quarterback Griffin Goodwin.
The senior caught fire at Oakwood -- or rather threw it -- as Goodwin tossed five touchdown passes and rolled up 250 yards to help Banks County push past Johnson 54-35.
The victory not only sealed the Leopards first victory of 2016, it also notched the first win for new head coach Josh Shoemaker.
For his efforts, Goodwin has been named the Friday Game Night, Locos Grill and Pub Player of the Week.
The Leopards knew that the veteran Goodwin would be a key piece on a team that featured talent but also plenty of youth, including a brand new offensive line. On Friday night that group stepped up -- and Goodwin torched the Knights as a result.
Banks County will take the night off this Friday before battling Union County on Sept. 16th. With that in mind, Friday Game Night and AccessWDUN sports editor Morgan Lee recently caught up with Goodwin to present him with his award and ask about how much positive momentum Friday's win generated, the Leopards' offensive progression and what he sees for the season ahead.
