DAHLONEGA — The 19th-ranked University of North Georgia women's soccer team opened up its 2016 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Lees-McRae Thursday evening in front of a near capacity crowd at the UNG Soccer Complex.

After a scoreless first half, the Nighthawks came out on a surge in the second half as Rachel VanHorn knocked home the first North Georgia goal of the season on a through ball from Jacy Ramey in the 47th minute.

Ramey, UNG's leading scorer from a season ago, picked up a goal of her own in the 71st as she outraced a Bobcat defender on a quick counter attack that followed a Lees-McRae corner kick.
