Cornelia sewer line replacement continues

Posted 3:01PM on Wednesday 31st August 2016 ( 7 years ago )
CORNELIA — People driving in the downtown Cornelia area likely have found themselves having to take a detour over the past few days.

That's because of ongoing infrastructure improvements taking place in the area.

One of the areas affected is Hodges Street at Ivie Street, where the road has been dug up to accomodate installation.

"This is part of the sewer line replacement project that runs from Moss Street to Wayside Street," said City Manager Donald Anderson.

"The cost of the project is $950,000 and we have $764,000 in grant funds to help pay for it. The existing sewer line dates back to the early 1900s," Anderson said.
Personnel from D. Higgins Construction replace early 1900s sewer lines on Ivie Street at Hodges Street near downtown Cornelia.
Traffic on Hodges Street and Ivie Street is interrupted this week to allow aging sewer lines to be replaced. Access to Apple Square, home of the Georgia Department of Labor's Cornelia Career Center, is available only from the downtown side of Hodges Street.
