The agenda for Thursday's Hall County Commission voting session just got a little lighter.
That's because Mincey Marble has asked that a rezoning request for a company expansion be tabled for a couple of months.
The company said it still has plans to expand on property across from company headquarters on Browns Bridge Road, a plan that has generated concerns from neighbors in the area, who are worried about added traffic, noise and environmental issues.
Company President Donna Mincey said in a press release that the company is installing some new equipment to make production more environmentally friendly. Holding off on the rezoning request will give the company time to see how the equipment is working.
"This decision is part of our ongoing effort to be a respectful corporate neighbor and address concerns from our good neighbors," Mincey said in the written statement.
"We continue to emphasize that our company is attempting to close an outdated plant facility a mile away from our headquarters [at 4321 Browns Bridge Road] in order to consolidate operations. This rezoning request will allow us to build a modern, environmentally sound new building. At the same time, we will be able to further decrease our minimal truck traffic."
An online petition against the rezoning of the 11-acre tract of land has been posted at www.change.org; as of publication time, the petition had 451 signatures.
The request will go back before the commission on October 13.
