POWDER SPRINGS — Buford showed plenty of grit and fight but could not keep up with Roswell on Friday, as the Hornets took a 24-7 win at the Kell Classic at McEachern High School in Powder Springs.
Buford fell behind on the opening kickoff, as Xavier McKinney sprinted 90 yards for a touchdown. But the Wolves rallied to knot the contest at 7-7 on Derrian Brown's 9-yard touchdown run -- a score set up by a 41-yard pass from Mic Roof to TD Roof.
Roswell jumped back in front 14-7 in the second quarter on a 24-yard touchdown pass, and the Hornets began to pull away in the third quarter, putting up a touchdown and field goal.
Buford will take a bye next week before looking to bounce back on Sept. 2 against Bishop Timmons from Buffalo, N.Y.
