AUGUSTA — The University of North Georgia women's soccer program, along with rival-Columbus State, dominated the 2016 Peach Belt Conference preseason All-Conference team with both programs landing four honorees each on the roster of 11. The Nighthawks are represented by defenders Jessica Allen and Megan Gil, midfielder Sophia Matonak, and forward Jacy Ramey, displaying the incredible balance of Chris Adams' squad.
Allen was a First Team All-Conference selection at defender last season. A returning senior from Loganville, she scored five goals with one assist last season in addition to anchoring a defense that allowed the fewest goals in the league and was second in goals allowed average and shutouts. Allen scored two game-winning goals last year, including against Limestone in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Gil was also a First Team All-Conference selection last year. A returning senior from Dacula, she was a First Team All-Region selection from the NSCAA and D2CCA. She started in 20 of 21 games for UNG last season with four assists on the year, three of those coming against conference opponents.
Matonak also returns for her senior season at North Georgia after being named First Team All-Conference and D2CCA First Team All-Region in 2015. The Monroe native started all 21 games for the Nighthawks in the midfield and scored three goals with seven assists. The seven assists were tied for third-most in the PBC; she also finished 21st in the league in total points.
Ramey capped an impressive 2015 campaign with First Team All-Conference honors, a PBC All-Tournament selection and was Second Team All-Region for both the NSCAA and D2CCA. A returning senior forward from Buford, she led the team and was third in the PBC with 13 goals scored last year. She was also tied for fourth in the league in total points.
