GAINESVILLE — North Hall rallied from an early deficit to take an 11-8 win over Union County Thursday in a key Region 7-AAA girls softball battle.
Union County (0-2, 0-2 Region 7-AAA) took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning before the Lady Trojans (2-1, 2-0) responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.
Kailee Dyer (2-for-4, 1 run), Niki Carver (1-for-4, 1 run), and Kadie Sulllens (1-for-3, 2 runs) led off the innning with three consecutive singles. Julian Garrett (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 runs) cleared the bases with a three-run triple to tie the game. Garrett later scored later on an error and Carson Negley (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run) finished up the inning with and RBI single to score Amber Smith (2 runs).
Union County battled back to score two runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 5-5. North Hall's offense started a two out rally in the bottom of the fifth inning and scored another six runs, to retake the lead 11-5.
Sullens reached on a fielder's choice and Garrett walked to set the table for a double steal that put runners at second and third base. Amber Smith followed with a walk to load the bases. Macy Clark (1-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 run) hit a two-run single to score Sullens and Garrett. Camilla Howell (1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run) and Ashlyn Brewster (1-for-4, 1 RBI) also added RBI singles in the inning.
Union County tried to mount another comeback by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 11-8. Niki Carver pitched a scoreless seventh inning to give the Lady Trojans the hard fought victory.
North Hall next travels to the University of North Georgia on Monday to take on North Forsyth.
