Volleyball: Gainesville splits to open season

MADISON — The Gainesville girls volleyball team opened its season splitting a pair of matches Tuesday at Morgan County.

The Lady Red Elephants (1-1) opened with a 25-18, 25-15 win against host Morgan County but then fell to North Oconee 25-19, 25-5 in the nightcap.

Abby Alexander led Gainesville with eight kills. Savannah Roys had 24 assists, Tangi Miller added eight kills, Caroline Mercer pitched in with four digs, and Camille Calkins had two kills and two blocks for the Lady Red Elephants.

Gainesville next plays in a tri-match at Lakeview Academy on Thursday that also includes Dawson County.
