Search continues for missing Florida man on Lake Lanier

Authorities continued their search Monday for a missing Florida man who fell off a pontoon boat Saturday.

Kevin Husum, 23, went missing in the area of Three Sisters Island, according to Mark McKinnon with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

"We began searching again (Monday) morning around 9:00 a.m.," said McKinnon in a phone interview. "We're hoping we can find him very soon to bring closure to that family."

The driver of the boat, Kenneth Toller of Cumming, has been charged with boating under the influence in the incident.

"What we know at this time is (Husum) went off of that pontoon boat while it was in motion. That makes the search area relatively large. Also the water there is about 40 to 80 feet deep, and it's covered in trees on the bottom," said McKinnon.

McKinnon asked that boaters avoid the area on the east side of Three Sisters Island to allow crews to search more easily.

He also reiterated the dangers of drinking and boating.

"It's just like being in a car. Your judgement is impaired if you're under the influence. Motor skills are not as good. And then with a boat you add the additional problem of water," said McKinnon.
