Trooper 1st Class 2 Jonathan (Spencer) Munger, a Rabun County native, was promoted to corporal at the post that covers Banks, Hall and White counties.

“These promotions are more than well-deserved," said Sgt. 1st First Class Anthony Coleman, commander of Post 6, in a statement. "These guys are very motivated in providing leadership and support to the others currently working at Post 6."

Allen began his career with the Georgia Department of Public Safety in 2002 as a radio operator at Post 37 in Cumming. He was promoted to senior radio operator just before being accepted as a member of the 81st GSP Trooper School.

While in Trooper School, Allen received the Advanced Driving, and the Firearms Proficiency awards. Upon graduation in 2005, Allen was assigned to Post 6 in Gainesville.

While at Post 6, Allen was recognized as Officer of The Year by the Optimist Club in 2008, and was awarded the Law Enforcement Excellence Award in 2011 and 2013 by the Gainesville Kiwanis Club.

Allen also served as a field training officer and the post public information officer. He also obtained certification as a marijuana examiner.

In 2013, Allen was promoted to corporal at Post 51 in Gwinnett. His duties there as an assistant post commander included managing the daily operations and assignments for 35 troopers.

In 2014, Allen transferred back to Post 6 in Gainesville, where he continued his duties as a corporal until his recent promotion.

Allen, his wife Janna, and two children live in White County.

Munger was promoted to corporal at Post 6 on July 16. The Clayton native is a 2008 graduate of Rabun County High School.

He began his career with the Georgia Department of Public Safety in October 2008 as a radio operator at Post 6 Gainesville. Munger was selected to attend the 88th GSP Trooper School in 2011.

Upon completion of Trooper School, Munger was assigned to Post 6 in Gainesville as a new graduate trooper. During his tenure at Post 6, Munger has served in several capacities, including post public information officer, field training officer, STRIKE Team member, tactical flight officer, and driving instructor.

Munger also served an assignment on Gov. Nathan Deal’s executive security team at the Governor’s Mansion.

Munger has received several commendations and awards, including the Law Enforcement Excellence Award in 2014 and 2015 by the Gainesville Kiwanis Club, and the Todd Helcher DUI Award in 2014 and 2015.

He was also recognized by GSP for being the Top Performer in 2014 and 2015 for DUI arrests in the 21 counties of Troop B.

Munger lives with his wife, Kelly.
