People in the region now have access to life-saving heart care that’s overseen by a true master, according to the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, the national professional society for adult and pediatric invasive/interventional cardiologists.
Jeffrey Marshall, MD, an interventional cardiologist with The Heart Center of Northeast Georgia Medical Center and medical director of the Cardiac Catheterization Labs at NGMC, was recently named a Master Interventionalist by SCAI. According to a press release from the medical center, the recognition is reserved for cardiologists who have been society members for more than 10 years and demonstrated a career of excellence in patient care, teaching, research and innovation.
“This title confirms what we’ve known for more than a decade: Dr. Marshall is an expert and pioneer of heart care in the state,” says Billie Slinde, executive director of Heart and Vascular Services at NGMC. “Dr. Marshall was instrumental in bringing interventions and open heart procedures to the Northeast Georgia region in 2002, and his dedication to improving clinical quality and research has contributed to NGMC’s rating as Georgia’s #1 Heart Hospital for 11 years in a row – not to mention the countless lives saved.”
Dr. Marshall led the creation of the angioplasty program at NGMC and was a driving force in developing a regional emergency heart attack response program called Northeast Georgia Regional STEMI System, which has received national recognition for its life-saving work.
Nationally, there are more than 8,000 Interventionalists and only 35 members have achieved this award. Also, out of eight members recognized as Master Interventionalists for 2016, Dr. Marshall was the only cardiologist in Georgia to receive the title. Dr. Marshall is a former president of SCAI and received its Mason F. Stones, Jr. Distinguished Service Award in 2008.
“I’m honored to receive this recognition and look forward to continuing to improve the health and lives of the people of Northeast Georgia for years to come,” says Dr. Marshall.
