First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Georgia were down 10-percent in June but up slightly in Gainesville.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says about a quarter of the new applications were temporary claims. Most of the decrease was due to a decline in claims filed in manufacturing.
Eight of the fourteen metropolitan areas in Georgia reported an increase in the number of claims. Gainesville's was the smallest (0.8 percent); the largest was in Savannah (30.5 percent).
Meanwhile, Athens reported an increase of 9.9 percent and Atlanta a decrease of 3.7 percent.
