Two Gainesville women were recognized at the 2016 American Heritage Forum in Washington, DC last month.
The women, members of the Colonel William Candler chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Gainesville, were honored for their artistic talents. Lynda Holmes was was the national first place winner in poetry for her poem "Freedom Rings from A to Z" while Helen Martin was honored as the national winner for cloth dolls.
Ida "Bea" Fischer, the immediate-past State Regent, was also in attendance, along with Holmes daughter, Lucy Holmes Plovnick, and granddaughter, Rosemary Plovnick, at the forum on June 14.
