Two men were displaced as the result of a house fire Wednesday afternoon in Sugar Hill, authorities said.

A neighbor reported the fire at 3:42 p.m. at the home on Parkview Mine Drive, Gwinnett County Fire Cpt. Tommy Rutledge in a news release.

The neighbor reported smoke coming from the house, but no answer at the front door.

When firefighters arrived on scene, one of the men who lives there was in the backyard, trying to fight the fire with a garden hose from the outside.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames once they got their hose hooked up to a nearby hydrant; Rutledge said there was moderate damage on the contents of the basement, and residual smoke throughout the rest of the two-story home.

Investigators continue their search into the cause of the blaze, and the Red Cross has been called to assist the two men who were displaced by the fire.
