A Suwanee man, just released from jail Sunday morning, allegedly stole a vehicle from a Lawrenceville church, wrecked it and died.

Nelson Hoang, 20, is accused of stealing a Nissan Xterra from World Life Church around 11:15 a.m. — less than six hours after he was released from the Gwinnett County Jail — before crashing it on Ronald Reagan Parkway near Five Forks Trickum Road, according to a Gwinnett County Police report.

Hoang apparently stole the vehicle while the owner had gone back into the church to retrieve her purse.

The Xterra rolled over in the crash, ejecting Hoang.

Witnesses to the theft told Lawrenceville officers what clothes Hoang was wearing, which allowed Gwinnett Police to identify him as he was being taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Xterra was impounded, as the investigation continues.
