Charges have been upgraded for a Hall County woman for her alleged involvement in the beating of a woman with brass knuckles June 30.

Erica Joy Dean, 37, was originally charged with hindering the apprehension of a fugitive, a charge Hall County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Ware said stemmed from her interference with authorities locating her boyfriend, Timothy Craig Edge, 42, who was wanted for the crime.

Investigators now believe that Dean participated in the beating and kidnapping of the victim.

The pair are accused of beating Edge's ex-girlfriend with brass knuckles, breaking her tailbone and several ribs.

Dean is now charged with aggravated battery and kidnapping with bodily injury, Ware confirmed in an email.

The SWAT team was called to Edge's residence when he was arrested July 8; Ware said it was a precautionary measure due to Edge's violent criminal past.

The victim was treated for her injuries at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
