Ralston tied for 3rd after opening round at prestigious Players Amateur

BLUFFTON, S.C. — Gainesville's Spencer Ralston fired a 4-under par 68 Friday and is just one shot back of the leaders after the opening round of the 17th annual Players Amateur at Berkeley Hall Golf Club’s South Course.

Ralston, an upcoming freshman at Georgia, charged late with birdies on 14, 16, and 17 to pull into a three-way tie for third. Ralston tallied six birdies to go with one bogey on the round.

The field is star-packed, including Clemson golfer and ACC Freshman of the Year, Bryson Nimmer, who shot a 5-under 67 to share the lead on his home course. Australian Anthony Quayle also finished his round at 5-under for a share of the lead.

Ralston will tee-off at 8:10 a.m. Saturday to begin the second round.
