A suspect was arrested over the weekend for allegedly robbing a person at the gas pumps at the Wal-mart Neighborhood Market on Browns Bridge Road, then trying to carjack another person at a nearby car wash.

Eric Timothy Davidson, 27, of Gainesville fled the scene at the gas station on foot, according to Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook, then went to the nearby car wash and attempted to steal a car from a woman, whose child was in the back seat.

Davidson allegedly approached the woman as she was vacuuming her car around noon Saturday, demanded her car and got into the front seat, where a struggle ensued.

"Fortunately, two male subjects saw what was going on and intervened," said Holbrook in a phone interview. "Fortuantely officers were already en route. They were responding to the initial call at Wal-mart."

Davidson had a gun in his pocket during this process, though Holbrook said he isn't sure whether or not it was ever pulled out. Police confiscated it at the scene.

"This is something that could have had a very different outcome," said Holbrook. "Suspicion would lead us to believe that drugs are involved. It's believed Davidson was under the influence of methamphetamine during this crime."

Davidson is charged with attempted armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of methamphetamine.

At last report, he remained in the Hall County Jail.
