Three people were rescued and no injuries were reported when a boat sank Saturday night around 11:00 near Sunset Cove marina on Lake Lanier.

"The vessel was swamped by large waves," said Mark McKinnon, DNR spokesman, in an email.

The incident happened in Shoal Creek, putting the three occupants of the boat into the water.

Rangers, along with other boaters nearby, were able to get all the victims safely out of the water, said McKinnon.

The Hall County Fire Department and Forsyth County Fire Department also responded to the scene.
