Longtime State Representative Carl Rogers of Gainesville tendered his official resignation to Governor Nathan Deal in a letter Thursday afternoon.
"As you remember, I chose not to seek re-election to a twelfth term. I am ready to move ahead to a full, private and family life," Rogers said in a prepared statement. "The date I selected coincides with the end of the
state's fiscal year, June 30."
Rogers, a Republican, represented Gainesville and Hall County for more than 21 years in the Georgia General Assembly.
Gainesville Republican Matt Dubnik will succeed Rogers; Dubnik won an uncontested race for the District 29 post earlier this year.
