A driver is facing DUI charges after a 24-year-old White County man died as a result of a single-vehicle wreck Thursday night.
White County Coroner Ricky Barrett identified the victim as Christian Culp, who was a passenger in a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck that ran off the road in a curve on Joe Black Road north of Cleveland.
Barrett said the victim was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he was pronounced dead at 11:47 p.m.
The Georgia State Patrol investigated the accident; complete details about the crash are not available.
"This is an ongoing investigation," said Cpl. Nick A. Jenkins of GSP Post 6 in Gainesville via email Friday afternoon. "Details being released at this point are very generic ...."
Jenkins said the vehicle was traveling west on Joe Black Road when its driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then traveled off the right side of the road and into a ditch, striking the ditch with its right front quarter panel. The vehicle rotated clockwise and came to rest facing east on all four tires.
"GSP [Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team] was notified and came to the scene as the driver is being charged with driving under the influence," Jenkins said.
