DEMOREST — Piedmont College coach Jeff Jenkins released the 2016 men's and women's cross country schedule on Thursday, highlighted by hosting the USA South Championships on Oct. 29. This marks the first year since joining the league in 2012 that the championship will be hosted at a campus course with Piedmont serving as the host in 2016.
The Piedmont College Invitational is back on the schedule for the second year in a row after Jenkins brought a home competition to the schedule for the first time since 2012 last season. The meet on Oct. 8 will serve as the USA South Preview for schools who want the opportunity to race the course prior to the championship event.
The Piedmont College Invitational will take place on Oct. 8 on the recently designed course by Jenkins at Tallulah Falls School located in Tallulah Falls, Georgia. The course will feature primarily grass surfaces with mostly gradual elevation changes. The terrain provides for challenging hills and turns on the southern slopes of Cherokee Mountain just a half mile from Tallulah Gorge State Park. The collegiate women's 6k will take place at 10 a.m. that Saturday morning followed by the collegiate men's 8k slated to begin at 10:45 a.m.
The season opener will take place on Thursday, Sept. 1 at the Berry College Watermelon Run in Mount Berry. This meet will mark the first of three competitions on this course as Piedmont will travel to Berry to end the regular season and the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Meet will be at Berry for the second time in three years.
After a two week break following the final regular season competition, the USA South Championship Meet will be on Oct. 29 at the TFS Farm Course. The men finished as the USA South Champions in 2015 marking the first USA South title claimed by a men's team since Piedmont joined the league in 2012 while the women finished fourth overall in 2015.
The NCAA South/Southeast Regional meet will be at Berry College for the second time in three years with the meet scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12.
