BALDWIN — A single-engine plane came to rest nose down just off the runway of the Habersham County Airport near Baldwin on Wednesday.

"A Cessna 172 aircraft with two people on board ran off the side of the runway and struck an embankment at Habersham County Airport at 1:30 p.m. [Wednesday]," said Kathleen Bergen, public affairs officer for the Federal Aviation Administration Southern Region, via email Wednesday night. "The aircraft registration is N444WM ... the FAA is investigating."

The airplane is a 1976 model registered to Max Allen of Jefferson, according to FAA.gov.

The aircraft came to rest between the airport runway and West Airport Road, where it will remain until FAA investigators arrive Thursday.

Authorities Thursday morning said no one was injured in the incident.
