Hall County Forward, the county's Comprehensive Plan Update, is well underway, and there are some opportunities for the public to learn about the project and provide input.

The State of Georgia requires a community to present minor updates its Comprehensive Plan every five years and more in-depth updates every decade, according to County Administrator Randy Knighton.

Knighton said a "visioning workshop" is scheduled for Tuesday, June 21 at 6:00 p.m. in the Commission Meeting Room at the County Government Center on Brown's Bridge Road.

"In that workshop, we'll be starting to lay the groundwork for the Comprehensive Plan Update to have citizens provide their input of how they envision the county growing and developing over the next 20 year period," said Knighton. "It's vitally important that we receive as much input from citizens as we can in order to help us formulate those thoughts and ideas."

In addition to the workshop, the county has made available to citizens as community survey on the Hall County Forward webpage.  They will also use the page to offer information on the plan. Hard copies of the survey are available by contacting the Hall County Planning Department at 770-531-6809.

"One key component to the Comprehensive Plan is to determine a framework for how growth and development will take place over the next several years, to determine those areas that are suitable for commercial or industrial or residential development," Knighton said.

Knighton called the plan a "significant guide" for county leaders as they make decisions for Hall County's future.

"When proposed developments come through and are evaluated by staff, the planning commission and county commission, it is an important guide to help shape those decisions which ultimately have to be made on proposed rezonings or new development," Knighton said.

This latest version of the Hall County Comprehensive Plan should be ready by mid-2017.
