Hall County fire officials Thursday said a Wednesday morning fire that damaged an apartment in Oakwood was caused by an unattended candle.

Hall County Fire Services responded to the fire off of Cedar Way in Oakwood just after 8:20 a.m., according to Fire Capt. Zachary Brackett.

He said when crews arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the front of one of the units. Brackett said crews forced their way inside and extinguished the fire, containing it to the first floor of the apartment.

No one was home at the time.
