A Kennesaw man faces drug and traffic charges after he allegedly led Georgia State troopers on a high speed chase through Hall and Forsyth counties Monday night.
Sgt. Anthony Coleman said troopers from Post 6 tried to stop 31-year-old Drew Johnston on Dawsonville Highway at Marina Drive just after 7 p.m. for a tag violation on his motorcycle. He said Johnston failed to yield and then sped away from troopers.
Coleman said Johnston exceeded speeds of 120 mph and at one point drove into oncoming traffic on the wrong side of the road.
As the pursuit extended into Forsyth County, troopers used a box-in maneuver to slow the speeds down as the motorcycle attempted to pass the patrol cars, according to Coleman. Eventually, the motorcycle collided with a patrol vehicle and the pursuit ended.
Coleman said Johnston suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and then arrested.
In addition to a charge of felony fleeing, Johnston faces a number of traffic charges and a charge of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
