SUWANEE — Officials in Suwanee have given approval for a new pier to be built at Sims Lake Park.
"Sims Lake Park is one of our more idyllic, attractive parks. It's focal point is the lake. A few years back we went and asked residents what features they'd like to see at our parks, and a number of citizens indicated they'd like a dock or a pier," said Marty Allen, city manager.
The new pier, which will have a roof, will be made of wood, and will cost approximately $61,000, to be funded by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) revenue.
This will allow people to "enjoy the park from a different perspective," said Allen, who added that the pier itself will be located on the side of the lake closest to Suwanee Dam Road.
Fishing will still be prohibited in the lake, but residents are still allowed to feed ducks if they would like.
