The five men seeking the 9th District seat in Congress will be on stage tonight for a town hall meeting sponsored by AccessWDUN and The Times. The public is invited.
The 9th District Town Hall Meeting will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. in the auditorium of the Brenau Downtown Center, formerly the Georgia Mountains Center. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The five candidates – incumbent Rep. Doug Collins, former Rep. Paul Broun, Roger Fitzpatrick, Bernie Fontaine and Mike Scupin – are all expected to attend. Members of the audience will get the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates during the event.
WDUN’s Joel Williams, AccessWDUN’s Mitch Clarke will host the event, and Joshua Silavent, a reporter at The Times will ask questions posed by readers on social media.
The town hall meeting will be broadcast live on WDUN AM 550 and FM 102.9, and it will be streamed live on AccessWDUN.com, WDUN.com, gainesvilletimes.com and the AccessWDUN smartphone app.
Audience members attending the event will be asked to obey a few simple rules:
- Because the event is being broadcast live, attendees are asked to be in their seats before 6:30 p.m.
- No political signs, banners or other campaign materials will be allowed inside the Brenau Downtown Center.
- Audience members should turn off cellular devices inside the auditorium because they could interfere with the radio broadcast.
- Audience members who wish to ask questions should raise their hand or make their way to one of the hosts in the audience.
- Questions should be broad enough that all five candidates have the opportunity to answer.
The town-hall meeting is free and open to the public. Anyone with an interest in the 9th District race is encouraged to attend and ask questions of the candidates.
