CLEVELAND — As White County elections officials prepare for next week's advance voting for the May 24 Primary, a county commission candidate has withdrawn his name from consideration.
Ron Hood, who was seeking the District 1 commission seat, filed papers with White County Elections Superintendent Garrison Baker Thursday morning saying he is withdrawing for medical reasons.
The 68-year-old Hood was challenging incumbent Terry Goodger for the District 1 county commission seat.
Baker, who was programming voting machines for next week's voting process, said Hood's "name will remain on the ballot, but we will post notices at all the polling places for county commission District 1 race and early voting, that any votes cast for Mr. Hood will not be counted. His name will be on the ballot, but they will simply not be counted.”
Contacted by phone, Hood said there was a health issue that required surgery recently and during the current recovery time he felt the stress of a campaign was not worth it.
"I strongly feel people should have a choice," Hood said.
