CLARKESVILLE — A Wednesday-afternoon fire severely damaged a piece of heavy equipment in Habersham County.
County Manager Phil Sutton said the motor grader fire on Buckhorn Road probably was caused by an oil or hydraulic leak.
"The motor grader is severely damaged," Sutton said. "We will file an insurance claim. The operator was not injured."
The road department relies on a fleet of three motor graders to maintain the county's gravel roads.
"We are now down to two motor graders," Sutton said. "We will prioritize the work to avoid having to lease another motor grader until we can get a replacement."
